30 years of innovation with people at the center of everything

July 6, 2024
This year Infocorp celebrates three decades and there is no better way to commemorate this milestone than through its protagonists. This time, we spoke with Elena Rubin, Chief People Officer of Infocorp, who played a fundamental role in creating the culture and structure of the organization. Since joining Infocorp more than 7 years ago, Elena is convinced that Infocorp is an organization where everything is possible thanks to the people who are part of the team.

Since its inception, Infocorp has been recognized as an innovative company, and this is largely due to Gabriel Colla, its founder, who always maintained a disruptive vision and transmitted that DNA to the entire organization. That spirit has endured over the years, as transmitted to us by Elena, who shares that same DNA: “Infocorp is a place where everyone has the freedom to propose ideas, express themselves and create new ways of doing things, initiatives and new roles, thus fostering an environment in which everyone can find their place to grow and contribute to the success of the organization”. And according to his story, this, together with a people-centered culture, is the backbone that sustains Infocorp after so long.

Elena, could you tell us about your beginnings at Infocorp?

In reality, I was always linked to Infocorp without being a direct part of the company. I spent my first years as an external consultant until, years later, I received a call from Martín Naor, then CEO of Infocorp, and Ana Echavarren, who was taking on her new role as CEO. It was at that moment that I decided to join the company to take on the challenge of working directly with people, building teams, promoting culture and rethinking the way we work. Back then, there was a lot to do in terms of managing people. Over time, I realized that “Human Resources” did not reflect Infocorp's culture or the way in which we wanted to carry out managing people. Therefore, we decided to change the name of the area to “People”, thus highlighting the importance we give to people. This focus on people has been fundamental to cultivating a strong organizational culture.

What is the structure of the Infocorp team?

In the structure of our team today, there are very defined roles, but with absolute flexibility. We always keep in mind that the different tasks of a role can be covered by another member of the team. That's why, although we have well-defined responsibilities, we all know what the other members of the team are doing.

We constantly strive to create a dynamic structure and to professionalize each of our practices. Throughout an employee's journey within the organization, we have been continuously developing and refining this approach. However, behind all these efforts, lies the fabric of our culture, which we began to cultivate from day one.

We often do the exercise of asking our team about their personal values and which of these values they identify with Infocorp. As we moved from the face-to-face work model to a remote one, especially after the pandemic, we find ourselves hiring many people who have never had the opportunity to meet in person or have worked under our company culture. The challenge has been to understand if we are able to effectively transmit our values and our culture, what we “are”, despite physical distance.

Considering the current structure of the team, what strategies have been the most effective in transmitting Infocorp's culture?

Consistency between what is said and done is fundamental to transmitting Infocorp's culture. It is important for employees to be able to see and feel how daily decisions are managed, since the way in which everyday challenges are solved is an opportunity to transmit company culture. Every action, from how challenges are addressed to how feedback is provided, reflects Infocorp's core values.

In addition, culture is manifested in the process of selecting new team members. We strive to integrate people who are aligned with values and culture, and who find satisfaction in working collaboratively.

These strategies have proven effective in transmitting Infocorp's culture and keeping it alive even in a remote work environment.

What stands out about Infocorp's culture?

At Infocorp, people are at the center of everything. The company seeks individuals who share its values and enjoy the freedom and autonomy we offer. The commitment of the people, which guarantees the success of the team.

At People, we have the challenge of listening to each employee, knowing their needs, learning from them and continuing to improve. That's why every year we carry out the #peoplevoICes, our organizational climate survey, where all people have the opportunity to express themselves anonymously about how they feel working at Infocorp. It's about listening to people, strengthening the company's strengths, recognizing errors and implementing actions to remedy the opportunities for improvement that are identified.

Last year, for example, we achieved 93% voluntary participation in the survey. This indicator reflects the team's commitment and trust and our determination to continue to improve. Every voice is important at Infocorp, and it is thanks to the support and joint effort of the people who work or worked at Infocorp at some point, that we are able to make Infocorp a great place to work and grow.

Thinking about the future, what are the challenges faced by Infocorp?

Infocorp's adaptation to changes is remarkable in several ways.

Years ago, changing jobs was frowned upon, but today people take more risks to achieve their personal and professional goals and do not hesitate to change jobs if those who have do not satisfy them and this is absolutely normal. In addition, with the consolidation of remote work, geographical boundaries have disappeared. We face these issues day by day and, for example, if a person on the team expresses their desire to live in a different country than the one in which they were hired, and wants to continue working at Infocorp, regardless of whether it is in another time zone, the company supports him and agreements are sought to continue the employment relationship.

We are characterized by openness and adaptability. We are constantly looking for solutions aligned with the individual needs and preferences of employees, which helps to strengthen our culture. I believe that companies have to increasingly consider the needs of people when making a job offer or talking about plans for professional evolution and this is a constant challenge.

Finally, what is the main reason why you are still betting on Infocorp?

It's a place where I can express myself with total freedom, in a context where people matter. I enjoy entrepreneurship within the company and value the opportunities presented to me to do so. In addition, the Management team is made up of people with very different but very complementary modalities, which generates a fluid and affectionate interaction that translates into excellent management results. The People team is also exceptional and provides invaluable support to the entire organization. All of this, taken together, fills me with personal and professional satisfaction and makes me continue to choose Infocorp as my place to work.

Although the challenges are permanent and increasingly diverse, Infocorp continues to evolve and adapt. You can't make decisions that satisfy all people equally, but it's crucial to listen to and consider the individual needs of each member of the team to build a work space that promotes good results and promotes health at work.
